What Causes Hearing Loss?
Hearing loss can be caused by multiple things such as infection or age but is most commonly caused by one extremely loud noise such as an explosion or continuous exposure to a loud noise. A study showed that violin players were more likely to have greater hearing loss in the ear closer to the violin because of the sounds the violin generates. It was also shown that people who sat near the brass section in an orchestra or band had a greater chance of hearing loss. Hearing loss can be slight and over time or immediate, depending on what is causing it. According to the Canadian Hearing Society (CHS), nearly 25 per cent of Canadians are reported to have some hearing loss. The CHS has also reported that a third of hearing loss is caused by society.
