How Do You Lose Your Hearing?

Multiple hairs in your ears pick up sound vibrations and transfer the vibrations into signals that can be processed by your brain. Different hairs process different frequencies and over time these hairs get damaged, thus causing hearing loss. On top of these hairs are patches called stereocilia. If they are damaged, the hair will never recover. The hairs responsible for picking up high frequencies are more delicate than the low ones, which is why we lose the ability to hear high pitches sooner than we lose the ability to hear low ones.
